The Dream

Jozua Joubert

Jozua’s dream for Karibib was to create more than just a wine estate – he envisioned a place where people and craft come together.  Where winemakers can be creative.  He wanted Karibib to be a home for small, independent winemakers to experiment, collaborate and grow their individual brands. 

This dream took him 10 years to realise when in 2020 all the vineyards on Karibib were sold to small scale producers, and the winery had its first inaugural harvest.  In 2023 the farm Karibib received its Estate status and the maiden vintage of Karibib Wine Estate wines were made.

The Cellar

Karibib Wine Estate - Sustainability in the Winery

Built in 2019, the Karibib cellar was designed in a low-tech, sustainable style. It provides a creative space for independent winemakers to craft their small-batch wines. It’s not just a cellar; it’s where tradition meets innovation from young and upcoming brands, and where the story of Karibib truly comes to life. 

Currently there are 8 winemakers exercising their craft at the Karibib Cellar, all of them single owner of their own brands and making unique stand apart wines to show each winemakers’ personality and different wine styles.

The Vineyard

Rooted in ancient Dolomite soils, Karibib’s vineyards are shaped by the Cape’s wild elements.  Jozua has a passion for farming with nature and sustainability is one of the core values at Karibib.

From old bush vines to new plantings, every block tells a unique story of place and purpose of the ever changing viticulture landscape in the Cape.

The Winemakers

At Karibib, nine small-batch winemakers have found a home to be creative with winemaking and make their wines stand out from the norm. Each winemaker brings their own personality and philosophy, resulting in a diverse collection that pushes the boundaries of conventional winemaking. In the spirit of collaboration they share a deep respect for the land and a commitment to authentic, minimal-intervention wines.

Exceptional Wood-fired Pizzas

Our wood-fired pizzas are made with three day slow-fermented, 70% hydrated dough and topped with fresh, seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. Simple, authentic, and unforgettable – the perfect pairing with a glass of wine.
